Le Cap-Sizun : a new world to discover by bike

Drive to Pointe du Raz, ride in style

Along with walking, cycling is the best way to explore, experience, and fully enjoy Cap-Sizun. The ride isn’t easy, and the terrain is steep. The beautiful panoramas, the typical hamlets, and the heritage buildings are well worth it. You’ll ride through timeless surroundings, in a magnificent setting. It’s even hard to stop. An electric bike will be your best ally. It will allow you to explore new horizons and enjoy a full-day stroll.

Going to the Pointes (Pointe du Raz and Pointe du Van) is a bit like climbing a mountain pass, a great hiking destination (especially since you can stay for lunch). The promise is enticing, the ride even better…

Explore the entire coast of Cap-Sizun via the cycle route

Via the south of Audierne Bay from Penmarc’h, Plouhinec, and Audierne, or via the north from Douarnenez-Tréboul, all sections of the V45 cycle route lead to Pointe du Raz. You’ll find restaurants and bars on site to enjoy your break. Don’t leave too early; the guided tours of the Grand Site de France are unmissable. The twilight vigil is a show of sound, light, and anecdotes (reservations at the tourist office).

The Youtar, to complete my tour of the Cape and follow the Goyen

The old railway line between Audierne and Douarnenez, opened at the end of the 20th century, is now a route dedicated to soft mobility. “Youtar” was the nickname given by some Cap-Sizun residents in homage to the distinctive sound emitted by its whistle: “Youd! Youd!” You will ride on safe (car-free) lanes or on small shared roads.

The Youtar route runs north-south or south-north, from Beuzec-Cap-Sizun (Pors Péron beach), via Pont-Croix, a Petite Cité de Caractère®, and Audierne, a listed resort. You will follow the Ria du Goyen, a former shipping route for trade. This valley is also an interesting birdwatching site.

Riding on the trails with my mountain bike

Cap-Sizun remains a wooded area and is a delight for trail enthusiasts. Five loops are certified by the FF VÉLO (French Cycling Federation). With panoramic views, valleys, scenic trails, and heritage gems, mountain biking is a pleasure for both the senses and the body.

LOOP BIKES

The Cape Peninsula is full of quiet little roads. Your thrills are heightened: you’re riding purely for pleasure, always with your head up to appreciate the beautiful views. You can create your own route or follow the loops already planned for you by enthusiasts from local clubs. For greater peace and safety, we recommend steering away from the main roads. Your adventure begins…
